IMPORTANT NOTICE: Before downloading and using the database, please make sure you have carefully read the entire Terms and Conditions section over to the right of this page. By downloading the software you agree to those Terms and Conditions of use, and you will be prompted to signal your acceptance of them during the download process.
The WBM has released a freeware version of its bookseller database, which can now be downloaded and used by any bookseller anywhere in the world. It comes complete with a comprehensive 100-page User User Manual supplied upon download.
The database (called WBM-BB for World Book Market Book Base) is considered by many of its current bookseller-users to be the most sophisticated and powerful multi-site-servicing desktop database in the world.
Many of its users have indicated that in their opinion this is a bookseller database which actually increases their earnings significantly at all their listing sites, but most particularly at Amazon.
The WBM-BB database is fully stand-alone and requires no external software to run. It may be installed on as many computers as a user wishes. It is entirely portable, and can be run off a data stick as well as a fixed hard drive.
Also being distributed free with this software is the WBM’s unique Homebase Converter, which automatically converts Homebase 2.3 data from its current mangled output format into coherent tab-delimited files, ready for immediate and automated import in to the WBM-BB database (and/or other software applications).
Please carefully note that the freeware version of the software does not come with any external software system supplied by the WBM, other than the User Manual supplied upon download.
This is highly sophisticated software, and whilst it can be used without further support inputs other than the User Manual by anyone reasonably IT-fluent, there will be many users who will find they need access to more on-going support on a regular basis (at least for the first year or so of operating it).
To cater for this need, the WBM has introduced a detailed Support Package System based upon an Associate Membership of the WBM, which carries a modest annual fee (see full details of this in the right hand panel of this page "Terms & Conditions of Use".
This software is single-user only and does not support multiple users (networking).
User manual
The software comes with an extensive 100-page User Manual which is stored upon download in the folder called C:/WBMBB/UtilitiesWBM. You can also download the Manual separately from the download page for the software itself.
The manual is available in both those environments in PDF, Ms Word or Open Office formats.
Outside of this supplied support documentation, there is no forum-based, one-to-one email or direct contact support supplied for the users of the Freeware product.
Professional Support for the WBM-BB
Users of the database who want to access direct professional support for the product from a team of existing users and the WBM programmers can do so in one of two ways:
By joining the WBM as an Associate Member (USD$75 annual fee), which admits the user into our closed support circle at our Forum, and which provides further one-to-one email or phone support in extreme cases of need or system failure, as well as other significant benefits (see Associate Member Plan below for more details on this);
By applying to join the WBM bookseller co-operative group itself (USD$30 per month for up to 20,000 listings) which provides all the support benefits obtained by an Associate Member as well as full access to all the other WBM online bookselling software tools, resources and utilities (see Full WBM Membership section below for more details on this).
Note that any Associate Member who applies to join the WBM as a Full Member (and is accepted) will have his or her Associate Member fee earlier paid rebated in full against the costs of joining and remaining a Full Member of the WBM (this rebate is capped at USD$75).
Registering your email with us when downloading the software
When you first download this software we require you to register a valid email address with us.
This is so we can advise you of any major changes to the software, and particularly if a listing protocol change at one of the big sites like Amazon requires users to change one of the many user-option buttons we have set in the database to subtly alter the format of uploads to all listing sites.
We will also be distributing a form of (free) mini-newsletter periodically to all known users, which will contain information as to any changes recommended or required, advice as to any bugs we may have uncovered (and suggested workarounds), tips and other useful hints as to how to maximise the database for online book listing.
Every subsequent email you receive from us will contain an "unsubscribe" button, so you can advise us that you no longer wish to receive that resource material. If you do that, we will unsubscribe you as a "registered user" and you will receive no further resource material from us unless you re-register for that purpose.
Terms and Conditions
This Freeware version of the World Book Market Book Base database (WBM-BB) may be downloaded and used indefinitely thereafter by any bookseller or private individual completely free of charge, subject to the following Terms and Conditions:
Copyright in this software remains always with its Developers (Guy Weller and the World Book Market);
The User (i.e. he or she either downloading or subsequently using this software product) may download and install as many separate copies of the software as he/she wishes, and is hereby granted a licence to use said software within his/her business or for whatever other purpose but may NOT sell, rent or hire the software to other parties;
The User agrees that he/she will not attempt to disassemble or reverse engineer the software, or make alterations to its core structure without the express written permission of the Developers;
The software is downloaded and used thereafter by the User entirely at the latter’s own risk, and the Developers accept no liability whatsoever for any claims of damage or loss arising from the use of the software by the User, or any system crash or failure or loss of data to which it is alleged that the free use of this software has contributed;
The Developers provide no warranty or guarantee whatsoever that this product will work as described in the User Manual, or at all, and the User must satisfy himself or herself before using the software for any commercial or other purpose that it will operate up to the standard and level of functionality required by the User, and that the software and hardware platforms operated by the User will sustain the ordinary functionality of the software;
Software Platforms and Technical Requirements
This software is a free Runtime Application constructed using Filemaker Pro.
It requires a software platform of Windows 2000, XP, Vista or Windows 7 to operate.
A matching Apple Macintosh Runtime version is under final development, and will be made available along with the Windows version in the near future (scheduled for mid to end April, 2011).
Macintosh users who own a recent copy of Filemaker Pro can use this database right now in Macintosh format if they apply to join the WBM as Full Members, and are accepted. Under those circumstances, a full Macintosh file will be made available to any WBM Member in that position.
Details of Associate Member Plan
Users of this software who wish to receive regular and ongoing support of the product, including upgrades and/or patches as they are released, and further including a regular stream of advice, tips and methods of best using its more advanced features, can join the WBM as Associate Members for an annual fee of USD$75.
Doing this will give you immediate access to a busy and well-organised Support Forum consisting of our chief database programmers at the WBM, other WBM users who have been using this software successfully for years, and new members joining in beginning to use it for the first time.
One-to-one email and phone support will be provided under this plan in addition (at the sole discretion of the WBM) where it is felt this is needed or recommended. For serious problems we can also provide Remote Desktop support (Windows only) using a downloadable client which requires you to authorise the Remote Desktop support session beforehand.
The level of support provided under this Assocaite Member plan, in other words, will be exactly the same as that provided to Full WBM Members using this same software.
Payment of the annual USD$75 fee is not rebateable or refundable in full or in part by those subscribing to that service EXCEPT in the following circumstances:
Any person joining as an Associate Member may cancel their subscription by written notice during a period of 14 days after the processing of their annual fee;
In the event that the WBM staff providing this support conclude at their sole discretion at any time during the annual pre-paid period that the Associate Member can no longer be credibly or usefully supported via the methods available, then the WBM may cancel the Associate Membership by written notice of 14 days intention to do so;
and in either of these two instances the most recent annual fee of USD$75 paid by the Associate Member will be refunded in full, and without deduction, to the User in question.
The User who has joined the Associate Member plan agrees that in either of the two instances of cancellation of Membership specified above his or her sole remedy and relief in the matter will be the refund in full of the latest annual fee paid to the WBM, and there shall be no question arise thereby of any consequent damages or loss of profits from the cancellation of an Associate Membership and its future support entitlements under either of these conditions.
The WBM staff and members supporting this program will use their best efforts to provide meaningful and useful support of the product to Associate Members, but no warranties or guarantees other than this are hereby made express or implied, and in particular it is not guaranteed or warrantied that any particular User of the software will be enabled via this support program to use the software effectively, or at all.
An Associate Member who decides to apply to join the WBM itself will, if accepted, have the entire most recent annual payment made as an Associate Member (USD$75) off-set against joining and/or other fees applied by the WBM to its Full Members, regardless of how much or how little time remains on the Associate Membership timescale for the pre-paid year in question.
Status as an Associate Member does NOT confer automatic entry into the WBM bookseller co-operative itself, and any Associate Member applying to join the WBM must be accepted by the WBM’s peer-group assessors in that separate matter.
The annual fee payable by an Associate Member (USD$75) will be applied from the first day of the month following the date of payment, so that a person joining the Plan on the first of any month will get an effective thirteen months of Associate Membership, whereas a person joining on the last day of any month will get twelve months and one day’s membership in return for their respective annual fee paid (USD$75).
