The World Book Market is a co-operative formed by a number of booksellers around the world, each with a physical store or bookshop, and each willing to act as physical representatives and agents for one another in his or her chosen area, state or region. All members have found themselves to the same Code of Ethics governing each and every transaction with customers. We have linked all our private websites, and each of our websites carries the book listings of all the other members, although each website has its own set of special categories and browse options which highlight the special offerings of that particular bookstore. If customers have problems with delivery after ordering on-line, his/her nearest World Book Market Member will personally help investigate the matter. If purchased books turn up which the customer feels are not “as described” there will be the additional option for a customer to take or ship any such book back to his/her nearest World Book Market Member, who will assist with any such problem. It’s all about harnessing the enormous power of the Internet to the personal security and comfort of dealing with an actual bookshop, in an actual location, with an actual person sitting behind an actual telephone to assist with any needs, wants, difficulties or problems which may arise from the customer’s on-line dealings and purchasing of books. Shortly, we will be attaching a Wants Wish List on all our sites (and this one) which will enable customers to enter details of books they are searching for, or part sets they wish to complete. The bookselling Members of the World Book Market will between them endeavour to source and supply as many of these customer Wants as possible, and at reasonable prices. Whilst the group is in its early stages, and still growing, the pattern of physical representation will be necessarily limited to those areas in which we currently have members. It is envisaged that by the end of 2006, however, we will have fully functioning World Book Market bookshops in every major location, city or region in the English-speaking world (and several elsewhere as well!) Once that target is achieved, our customers will in nearly every case have a participating Member in a location reasonably close to them, and not too difficult to physically attend. Customers who are travelling will be able to order book from any Member, and request that they be forwarded to the World Book Market Member in their next city of destination, or somewhere else upon their route. Or they may order books whilst travelling (either on-line or in the actual bookshop of a Member, and have the books shipped to the bookshop Member nearest their home, to be collected by them upon their return. |
